Welcome

This site gives you information on what we do and why we do it.

The product photographs are provided to give you some idea of the quality and variety of the products that form our trade. We carry a wide range but a only a small stock of any one item, and quite often only one. So just because there is a photo on the website doesn't mean we still have the item. We will make every effort to remove photos if we sell the products, and can't replace the item quickly.

E-commerce
We do not sell online, and have no current plans to do so. Several of our suppliers have online ordering systems and you can reach their sites via our links page.
So for now, to buy our products you need (physically) to come to the shop with your UK currency or a UK cheque book and bankers guarantee card. We also take Visa cards, and have to pay huge bank charges which reduces the money to Third World activities, but is more convenient for customers.

Fair Trade News
Our news page contains extracts and links from the local, national and international Fair Trade scene. 2003 was a landmark year, a lot happened in Fair Trade in 2004, 2005 is / was just as exciting, so keep coming back to stay abreast of events.
Plus you can read back copies of our newsletter.

What is Fair Trade ?
Very good question, there are no multiple choice test papers to fool you into thinking there are simple answers. The Fair Trade page tells about the problem, the structures, a bit of history, and leads to some real-life stories from people at both ends of the food and product chains.

Outreach ! Reachout
How far do we go, well miles actually. We are based in Hull but we travel out to the east, Patrington and Withernsea, to the north usually Bridlington, not often to places west of Goole.
Our network of Community Workers covers all of East Yorkshire.
However, we are now venturing south, over the bridge, and into North Lincolnshire.
The Humber Bridge from North Ferriby
Our agents in the probation service have taken our stock all over East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

Privacy policy
If you e-mail us, write to us, or in any way make yourself known to us, our promise to you is that we will not disclose any of your personal information to anyone else, and we will not "spam" you or pester you in any way.

Green Credentials
Many people who visit us have deep concerns about society and about the environment. We share those concerns, and as a business our purpose is to redress some of the iniquitous inequalities that blight so many lives.

We acknowledge our responsibility to act in a manner which preserves the environment for use by our children. But whilst we are not perfect, we are facing the right way, and moving forward as best we can.

  • We have re-used materials for shop fittings
  • We re-use plastic bags, cardboard boxes where possible, and wrapping paper and other materials
  • We use re-cycled paper products in preference to virgin pulped wood paper
  • We re-cycle cardboard via allotments
  • We use shredded paper as bedding litter for pets
  • We sell organic Fair Trade products
  • We sell recycled paper products
  • We sell re-used/recycled metal products (including spark plugs
Many of our suppliers also share the concerns and equally are striving to reduce wastage, packaging and energy usage.

Education
Really we do need to change some hearts and minds on what life is all about, and we try to help folks learn a bit about trade and all that stuff.
Go to the education page to find out how we support teachers, organisations like churches, and other groups.

Links
Not golf or cuff (the old ones are the best, even if I tell them), but Web links to other Fair Trade websites. Go for it, but beware of the acronyms.
